What were they thinking?!?

The News Times had an editorial today regarding the new Elmer's diner on North Street and we have to agree with their point. What are city officials thinking by approving businesses in areas where there isn't enough parking and way too much traffic? Even worse, now parking is being allowed along such a busy street where traffic congestion is horrible during rush hour! Elmer's Diner isn't the only mind boggling new construction in town, the new Walgreens in the Stew Leonard's parking lot makes no sense as well. The city didn't allow Stew Leonard's to expand their store which is an asset to the city but they let yet another Walgreens be built in an area where parking has been an issue for years! I think this November we need to take a closer look at who we are electing to our Planning and Zoning Commission and demand that the Planning and Zoning Department start thinking about what is best for the city and not developers.

You're too funny...and missing the point.

Mayor Boughton knew that Elmer's Diner would be a nightmare but did nothing to address the traffic concerns (as the News-Times clearly stated, the mayor didn't even request that NO PARKING signs be put in from of the diner so people would park on the street).

This is more of a traffic concern that Boughton should have addressed months ago instead of blaming the creation of the place on the previous administration.

I disagree with anonymous, raffic is monitored and controled by the Enginering Dept. and police. Do you really think micro-managing is a smart way to run the city...stop blaming the Mayor on this one, specific depts in City Hall deserve the blame.

No, blame the mayor on this one. He runs the city and could have easily told HIS department heads to get the job done.

This is the same mayor who "micro-manages" whenever a fight breaks out on Ives Street or whines about collection boxes and newspaper racks so you would think he could at least do his job when it comes to the safety of the residents of Danbury.

If Boughton and quickly blame Elmer's Diner of the previous administration, critics can EASILY blame the mayor for not having the foresight to address the traffic problems that any person could have seen coming (20 parking spots for 80 people).

For crying out loud, the mayor LIVES in the area.

I have to agree that this is not the Mayor's fault, if he had butt in then he would have been criticized for that and since he didn't he still gets blamed. We need to learn that what happens in our city happens because people allow it to, its not the result of one man its the result of a whole community who either doesn't care enough to speak up or who doesn't see a problem. Get over it, the diner is built and running lets just make the best of it and try to learn how to drive better!

If you have concern about this project and why it happened - Review this blog entry Now

http://iawab.blogspot.com/2007/06/comment-bellow-is-worth-investigating.html

one entry:
if mr. ramey (same ramey involved in the dyer scandal?) donates to democrats it is all the more reason to be suspicious.

because according to the record, ramey’s construction company made a significant contribution to mayor boughton in february 2004. Just four months before Mr. Ramey purchased the padanaram road property at the reduced rate of 75k, property he sold to deplama for 475k!!!!just months later. remember this is the property the city owned and donated for free.

side note: ramey’s company made that contribution the very same day AWD made one of their many.
