Did You Watch?

GREAT Common Council meeting tonight, I'm glad the city is taking another step to deal with our illegal immigration problem, we can't wait for the federal government to try to figure something out!

I also have to say I strongly agree with many comments made regarding the cultural monuments being discussed for outside of City Hall. There is not enough room for all the monuments and some groups will inevitably be left out. Lets find a better place for these monuments or lets think of something better to commemorate the diversity of cultures we have in our community.

For more information on the proposed monuments see the News Times story here:

Illegal immigration is by far the biggest crisis Danbury faces.

Oh, the pro-immigration nuts are kicking and screaming and using the "X" word again. I love it! It's the "no fair!" and "the Mayor is evil" attitude again. ;o)

Monuments? You are objecting to monuments? give me a break.

I object to the monuments, as well. We need a better way to celebrate Danbury's diversity.

For starters we can start by cleaning the streets of crime, enforcing public intoxication laws, to make the citizens feel safe.

We also need to increase the cost for a parade ordinance. They seem to occur way too often these days. Either way it is an excellent opportunity for the city to take in additional funds.

Maybe we should concentrate our police efforts on kids from New Fairfield who come to Danbury and actually threaten our safety?

Good police work, Danbury P.D. and Officer McColgan.

If you were assigned to assist ICE in their follies, perhaps a house in Danbury would have burned down, and lives might have been lost.

This new focus is more electioneering Boughton B.S. I will not vote for ANY of the signers of this letter, as they are not looking out for MY tax dollars at all.

I'm sick and tired of Boughton riding this issue to death like a rented mule.

All it will do is cost us more and more taxes in lawsuits and extended litigation, tying up police and city officials in Federal court. And the enforcement by Danbury P.D. costs money to do. It's not free.

How about lobbying the state and the congress for meaningful reform rather than this pitiful sideshow of an ICE folly that has produced little, in any, meaningful results.

How about some new ideas?

New York's Governor Spitzer is proposing licensing non-documented immigrants with valid passports so there is less chance of being hit by an uninsured driver, and so that some proper identification is present.

Makes sense?

Or would you rather have a large portion of the undocumented driving without insurance, licenses, and any training in U.S. driving laws?

26,000 arrests is not even a drop in the bucket, and represents the failure of federal policy that WE are now going to be asked to pay for.

It's for THEM come up with solutions, not to force US, the Danbury taxpayers to bear the added cost and the inherent enforcement risks associated with the Gestapo-like tactics that ICE practices, and that the Boughton campaign is earger to join in on.

Does anyone know if that big crazy looking guy in the back with the camera is Hat City Blog guy? I think it is, in fact it is. Just look at his latest posting on the Hat City website.

I don't think Mark would bother to go after him for slander, but maybe we can get a restraining order to keep him away from meetings. The guy is pretty belligerent and hostile on his extremist site.

The HATEcityblogger is a big loser lying wuss.

We CANT WAIT to rub his nose in it, like a bad puppy who has crapped on the rug again, when Mayor Mark wins AGAIN!

Hope the HATEcityBONG dude is there for the celebration on Nov 7th...unless he is too busy hiding in a diner parking lot!

Halfar and Taborsak are complete liars. The reasons they give not to go with 287(g) are total b.s.

They have an unhealthy obsession with immigrants and want as many as possible, regardless of legal status.

The Tribuna needs a reader comments section.

I don't think it's an "unhealthy obsession", more like an intense infatuation for day laborers. I challenge anyone to refute this statement.

Question: How is it that this post was done on 10/2 at 2:59 but the meeting didn't happen until 7:30?

Danbury and ICE will never happen. Gov Rell and the AG will come in and slap Boughton down again.

Monuments of any sort are ridiculous at City Hall. Lets see how welcome Danbury is when the Islamic Center places a monument of Mohammad at City Hall.

Non-religious monuments are welcome.

Boughton couldn't get him with anything because he does a good job backing his statements up. Boughton is going to win but the council is going to flip and that is going to make the Mayor's ideas a little harder to get through
