Wait....This is a City Right?

I read something in the paper last week that really got me going and then reading a letter to the editor today made me decide to write this post. First off, since when is it ok for the News Times to do a feel good story on someone growing a cornfield in their front yard in the middle of our downtown ?
(Aug. 14 -News Times- Letter to the Editor -"Danbury's witch hunt against Guinea fowl")
Second, how is this story getting positive comments? My only conclusion is that these people don't realize this cornfield is in a front yard, and that they have not driven by the darn thing regularly to see how out of place it is and how it devalues the homes around it.

So what set me off on a poor lady's front yard cornfield? Well the fact that people think they can do whatever they want with their property without any consideration for their neighbors and the people who have to drive by it on a daily basis. Examples include cars parked in front yards, people loitering infront of homes, laundry hung on bushes and fences and in this case a cornfield adjacent to a main road!

What else set me off? The fool who wrote a letter to the editor complaining about city officials forcing him to legalize his shed and get rid of his guinea fowl.
(Aug. 4 - News Times - Local section - "Garden of Eatin")
Are you kidding me? How can you bash city officials for doing their job? How can you expect the Zoning Board of Appeals to say its ok for you to have chickens running around on your property and its ok for you to have built an entire structure on your property without following the proper procedures? How can you say this was a waste of time and tax dollars? I know I don't want chickens or goats or horses and cows running around next door to me and I know that they belong on a farm. I also know that if the city let one person do it then everyone would want to do what they want and if they did then we'd have cornfields and chicken coops popping up all over our CITY...I emphasize the word city because that is what we are and chickens and corn don't belong in a city's downtown! Come on people, learn to assimilate and respect your neighbors!

Maybe we should assimilate with the immigrants and make this place a backwoods town instead of the disgusting city it is now? Is that really a bad idea?!

Corn fields?! Gimme a break.

Where is UNIT when you need 'em?

ICE should be checking through these corn fields.

Wow, picking on people for growing food. Could this be a new low - those devious illegals at it again.

I pray for those who fear God and people with different pigment. Maybe you should try their veggies - I bet their food is "cleaner" than yours, you fraidycats.

No one is picking on anyone and no one is against people growing their own food, I'm frustrated with WHERE they are growing it. If you want a garden that bad buy or rent a house with a BACK yard.

Is there a law against growing vegetables in your front yard?

If not, then what's the problem? If the landlord has no problem, and if it's legal (which it is) then they can do whatever they want whether you like it or not.

I can't wait for the children of immigrants grow up to adulthood and vote.

Definately illegals who do this.

More of their 3rd world bad habits.

It looks disgusting.

Dear (pro-people doing whatever they want in their front yards) anon:

If you don't mind someone farming in their front yards that is great for you, maybe you should buy all the homes on the street and then there won't be an issue. However, somehow I am sure that you've called city hall complaining about something you didn't like in your neighborhood. I'm sure if your next door neighbor decided to start raising goats and cows and horses in their front yard or holding sporting events in their front yard or parking unregistered vehicles in their yard, that you'd be the first to complain. People have the right to do what they want on their properties as long as it is within the law and as long as it respects their neighbors! You are wrong on this one, just get over it.

Dbyblogger,

Your blurring the law with your opinion and that's the problem.

As a neighbor, I could care less about how YOU feel and I don't have to RESPECT you, as long as I'm within the law in doing and in the case of the cornfield, if the person is within the law, who are you to say anything.

On the other hand:

Raising goats and cows and horses in their front yard (or back yard) is, in most cases, illegal.

Holding sporting events in their front yard is not illegal.

Parking unregistered vehicles in a yard is illegal.

There is no law saying I have to respect YOU simply because you don't like ME. Get over it or move out of Danbury and move someplace more to YOUR liking like Ridgefield or Brookfield.

Go to hatcitylog.blogspot.com. There is just as much racism, but with a different spin.

Expecting OUR laws to be respected and followed by illegal aliens is NOT racist.

The pro illegal people falsely love to cry race, because they have NOTHING to defend illegal aliens.

It is all about the law.
Dont want to abide by OUR laws? DONT COME HERE!
Americans are FED UP!
Period.

"voiceofreason" found this site, oh brother. Somebody alert "Dump Mark" to blog about it.

Unlike the immigrants arriving in Danbury from the 1600s until 1990, the recent immigrants do not want to assimilate in America's culture or participate in the Danbury community. All the recent immigrants (especially the illegal aliens) want to do is work under the table, beat the taxman and wire their American dollars home to their native country. SICKENING.

What a disgraceful city this has become. This would have never went down 30 years ago. The residents here were respectful, and you could actually have a conversation with your neighbors instead of them ignoring you, or just staring at you when you say "hello".

Hey Mary are you going to post again any time soon?

Anonymous said...

Ooh, he called you a girl's name and gave the usual "not enough postings" jab. Perhaps you should bog your site with videos.

Don't feed that troll, anon. Participate in hat city dot com if you feel the need to be cruel to people in your local town.

Is that you, anon? Going around all the blogs with the spin that everyone is ctblogger? Because it isn't and you're the one who looks like a fool.

BTW: When you say "CTB" you make it so obvious and you look pathetic. "CTB" would never come to a blog like this, pinhead.

Meet me at TK's tonight. It's time we meet up again. I always beat you in political debate, although you never agree...

Did these 2 lovebirds ever meet up at the Sports Bar?

I bet the "anti-ctbloggers" showed up with their lawyers. I met these nut cases. They have t-shirts (with anti-blogger messages) and they meet at the VFW. People around here take politics too seriously.

My goodness my husband has one of those stupid t-shirts, it's green with yellow lettering, he is such a loser YUCK!
