Doing What They Can

After reading the front page story this morning in the News Times I became concerned with the well being of Rayany Santos who is only 17 and has lost her family which is being deported back to Brazil. My first thought was that this is a federal issue and the Mayor can't do anything to help this family, but I was sure his office could help the poor girl who was left behind. I felt horrible for the girl and wanted to help so I called Mayor Boughton. Once I spoke to someone about the issue I felt much better. I was told that the girl does have family living in the area and that she would be staying with them, I was also told that many others had called also wanting to help and that Mayor Boughton had spoken with the girl personally and that he had contacted Congressman Chris Murphy's office to help her and her family. This is a sad story and there are extreme opinions found in the News Times comments and on other blogs but in the end this family did not leave when their visas' expired and they knew that if they stayed and applied for citizenship that their could be a chance that they would not be allowed to stay. Are they to blame for the outcome of this sad story? In a way yes. Is the federal immigration system a complete mess, sending back first those that are actually trying to be good citizens? Yes. Can anything be done at a local level? No, but I do want to thank all the individuals who showed sympathy for this family because the last thing they need right now is to feel persecuted and I do want to thank Mayor Boughton and his staff for doing what they could to help. Our Mayor gets a lot of slack for being anti-illegal and not doing enough, but he is doing what he can and I commend him for it. Good luck Santos family.

Bottom Line Folks - The Santos Family took advantage of us for the 10-15 years they resideded in the U.S. and NOW The Santos family feels the U.S. is taking advantage of them by performing the law.

If we lend a hand to the Santos Family by supporting any rights they may have to stay in America then all the other famililes similar to this situation will wonder where the equality is. (i.e. Tereza Pereira)

I wonder how Mrs., "I am an Immigrant," feels.

I feel bad for the teenager and she should be very upset not with the government but with her parents. They are the ones that put her in this position.

Yes, the girl should be ashamed of the values her family has displayed to her.

The remainder of the family (two young boys and father and mother) need to be punished.

I'm sure you and Mayor Boughton really feel bad...

Disgusting. Those of you who are ranting so cruelly should be ashamed of yourselves. What kind of a society are we, when we rejoice in the sorrows of others. This girl is suffering. Her family, is suffering. Regardless of your political stance on immigration, surely, you can understand the dilemma this family is in now, and the sadness and sorrow they are facing. They are human beings. And the Santos family, are no different in so many respects, than your family. There but for the grace of God go you, and your ancestors. And all of you should learn not to cast stones. Nobody is perfect. This family was trying hard to do the right thing, provide for their family, and keep it together. You've taken your pound of flesh from them, and moreso, if you consider the taxes you've earned off of their labor for years. Now is the time when you should look into your hearts, and find sympathy for this 17 year old girl.

ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL.

If she misses her family so much, I'm sure ICE can make arrangements to ship her out with her family.

dbyblogger, don't get soft because a girl is weeping for her illegal family. THEY BROKE THE LAW!

Idiot. She is a Citizen. She's never been to Brazil. She doesn't know the language. She doesn't know the culture, since her family was so "Americanized". If she went back now, all of her educational and vocational chances would be stunted. Obviously, her life, and her future is here, but equally as obvious, she is heartbroken. You are little better than an animal if you do not recognize that. Wait, I apologize, even Animals show more humanity than you.

Kids of illegals are not citizens.

Enforce the law and remove the scum from our city!

I wonder how you justify your view of them taking advantage of the U.S. when they all paid there taxes and contributed to your community. If your not smart enough to read the post correctly then please do not comment on it.

So your saying we shouldn't support any "rights they may have to stay in America"? That is funny. I thought your entire stance is on supporting those rights and laws put forth by our government... I hope that is not a hint of racism I see. Maybe your just not informed enough to understand the issue and your definitely not intelligent enough to speak on them.

Wow, your right. Let's just keep ignoring and oppressing these dirty immigrants because god knows, if we give one a break they are all going to be asking for a handout. I wonder how many breaks you have received in your life or how many times you have felt helplessly prosecuted in the country you so dearly love. Things need to change and tearing families apart is not an option. We, as Americans, should be ashamed of ourselves for treating our fellow man like this.

Let me explain something to you. Most immigrants who are now U.S. citizens overstay their visas. Shocking, I know. What illegal immigrants usually do is stage a marriage with a legal U.S. citizen and then receive their papers within six months. These people didn't do that because they wanted to go by the book. They went through the court system and lost. Now they can be held in federal prison for up to a year before being deported. Where is the justice in that. There lies your justice.. Why do we reward people marrying for papers and punish those who try to get legalized the right way? Oh, and one more thing.. I doubt that if you were born in a 3rd world country and had 2 mouths to feed that you wouldn't do your damn'dest to try and get to the US. It is easy to judge when you have so fortunate your entire life. We do not choose were we are born.

They need to get punished huh? Who the fuck are you to say anyone needs to get punished? You have no idea were these people came from, who they are or the severity of what they have done wrong. Do not come here and judge others unless you have walked a mile in their shoes. God forgive you for your thoughts and opinions. This a real family from the same town we are all from and you have to be one cold heartless son of a bitch to say something like that. I am sorry for you and anyone who has the misfortune of knowing you.

Correction.. She isnt weeping for her illegal family she is weeping for her FAMILY. Maybe you dont have the intelligence necessary to comprehend that those illegals you hate so much are human beings like you and I with the same blood, brains, and emotions that normal U.S. citizens like yourself have. your comment speaks for itself.. bigots always show their true colors.

Hey moron. Anyone born in this country, like she was, is a citizen. You should be thankful of that because if there any other criteria required to become a citizen I doubt that you would make the cut. The only scum I see is racist bigot xenophobe trash like yourself. You're a waste of life.

I'm pretty sure that waste of time and space on this page by "MO" was HAT CITY BLOGGER. But that's ok because we are all so used to his waste of time and space.
Keep up the fine work of this blog!

No racial slurs please, thank you.

MO is not Hat City Blogger but the person who created the Santos Family support blog.

Actually I know the guy who put together the Santos Family's blog and that isn't who wrote that long comment...good try hatcityblogger.

Anonymous said...

hey stupid,

if you go to the santos family blog, it clearly shows that MO as the owner of the site.

i'm not the biggest fan of hatcityblogger but this oliver stone attitude towards him makes everyone seem nuts.

Anonymous said...

HCBlisracist,

Ha! You need to conceal yourself better. "stupid" and "oliver stone". Just don't say those things again in the same comment if you want to try and conceal your identity.

So when is the "parade" for the Santos family?

Why do you let the Newstimes comment section bother you so much? Don't you know there are much worse things said all throughout the internet... ?... or are you so obsessed with your local surroundings that you can't see outside the box...?

Anonymous said...

The Tribuna needs a comments section.

Anonymous said...

Could you imagine if the Tribuna really did have a comments section??? I bet most of the comments would be too harsh for "them".

The Hat City Blog is the best in the country. It's the best local site and it is not biased.

Oh that has to be the funniest thing I heard all day. The Hat City Blog IS very biased and you are only kidding yourself by regretting this.

sarcasm my friend, complete sarcasm... ;o)

:o)

Anonymous said...

The Hat city blog is a well laid out site and he researches well...BUT..the fact that he is SO BIASED totally ruins it and leaves him very little credibility!
A shame.

Anonymous said...

Very, very true! Its a shame he spends all this time doing the site and no one finds him credible.

Anonymous said...

The only people who don't find him credible are the Boughton supporters, fans of BigT, and people that were banned from the site or pretend to be other people (like anon July 23, 2007 9:47 AM who claimed to be "Dump Mark").

If you don't like his site, why are you comment about it when the post has to do with the Santos family? Maybe you get your kicks out of pretending to be other people or replying to your own remarks, which is why Danbury Politics turned off anonymous comments (funny how the anti-hat city blogger comments picked up on this site after DP shut the door on you.

Best wishes to the Santos family. Your situation over underscores the stupidity of the entire immigration system.

Why does this certain blogger even come here if all he wants to do is spread hate? Stick to your Hate City and dirty politics, oh and slandering the Mayor. You do a good job with research, I agree, but the lies and racial accusations ruin it for you.

The REAL Dump Mark said...

Anon July 30, 2007 10:07 AM (or should I say troll).

Not everyone who can't stand Boughton is ctblogger. Some of us actaully have a brain and don't drink the Mayor's kool aid.

Now, you and the political hack of a blogger who owns this site can take that back to your boss Wayne Baker. Afterwards, you can stop by the First and Last and have a drik with the mayor.

Anonymous said...

What does Wayne have to do with anything?

Anonymous said...

More Lies.

He said NY Assemblyman, Greg Ball, attended an "anti-immigrant" rally in Brewster.

This creep is seriously sick and dishonest. Go over to the Hate blog and check it out.

You're a little slow... we all know he's a freak liar, enjoy the humor and ignore the antics if you must pay attention to that nonsense.
