Parade Ordinance Crosses FINISH LINE!

With an 11-8 vote, Danbury's Common Council had finally passed its' parade ordinance at the June meeting.
Those who did not vote, approving the ordinance were all 6 Dems and 2 Republicans, Mary Saracino and Jane Diggs. That number of Republican 'No' votes may have been greater if 6th ward councilman Ben Chianese didn't make the motion to send Phil Curran's appointment to the council to an Ad Hoc. My knowledge, Phil Curran will be fulfilling the seat of Councilman Ted Cutsumpas who has since resigned. (It was very clear to me that Chianese didn't even understand the result of his motion following the end of the meeting.) The Dems dug themselves into a very deep hole this time.

Mayor Boughton allowed time in the beginning of the meeting for the public to speak, now he is being criticized by a certain blogger that he only chose those in favor of the ordinance, those who would applaud him for doing what he's doing. Hello...then why did he let Mr. DaSilva speak, and as my own witness if Helena Abrantes wanted to speak she would have been seated up front where most all the other speakers were positioned to be called upon.

The public speakers on both ends of the spectrum brought up valid points pertaining to the ordinance. Elise Marciano, founder of the US Citizens for Immigration Law Enforcement based her praise for this ordinance on the inconvenience of others during the last soccer parade. Also speaking was John Woodruff who claimed the ordinance was based on prejudice and racism. Does Mr Woodruff not see the diverse culture of churches, restaurants, and convenience stores on Main Street? How can one possibly say the city of Danbury is basing an ordinance on prejudice and racism?

We've all heard Mayor Mark Boughton say many times in the past that Danbury is a welcoming society, a lawful one as well. Keep up the work Mr. Mayor and council members!

"Hello...then why did he let Mr. DaSilva speak, and as my own witness if Helena Abrantes wanted to speak she would have been seated up front where most all the other speakers were positioned to be called upon."

Lynn Waller, back of the room.

Joe DaSilva: back of the room.

Robert Melillo REPUBLCIAN MEMBER OF THE ZONING BOARD): back of the room.

Helena Abrantes: middle of the room and had her hand up throughout the public speaking portion of the meeting.

Head of the veterans group who opposed the ordinance: hand up up throughout the public speaking portion of the meeting.

Ken Guckert (person who challenged the mayor last month on his comments): hand up up throughout the public speaking portion of the meeting.

You're obviously blinded by your outright partisanship to be taken seriously going as far as to outright lie in order to support the Mayor.

Can't wait for you post next month.

Oh, and Mr. know it all,

The 11-8 vote wasn't a vote to pass the ordinance...do your homework. The Council voted not to reconsider the actions[4 motions] on the parade ordinance that were taken at the May meeting.

The ordinance was passed in May.

This has got to be one of the best blogs in Danbury. It's fun, and you don't bully anyone or make slanderous remarks about city officials, like ctliar.

The parade ordinance is a great idea. It does not equal racism like Mr. Woodruff says. It will help the community as a whole - immigrants and non-immigrants can celebrate together in an orderly and safe fashion.

This is a great city to live in! I will not let others spoil it by calling everyone haters, xenophobes (ctblogger probably doesn't even know what it means), or racists.

Peace to all!

If Helena doesn't care enough to stay for council meetings past the first 30 minutes then she shouldn't be picked to speak and she definitely should NOT be Mayor.

I guess that goes for Elise Marciano...she left after 30 minutes also.

Elise has attended almost every meeting for years and doesn't just do it for political gain, she actually cares about the community for unselfish reasons.

"Elise has attended almost every meeting for years..."

That's probably the biggest lie I've ever heard. Marciano has been to meetings at the advise of Basso and other Republican officials who go to her meetings (don't think there are not moles who aren't tracking her). She's only been to the meetings for about the last five months TOPS.

Stop lying, we're keeping a close eye on her.

Stop the lies and tell the truth.

However long its been she's been going a lot longer then Helena & whatever her reasons they are better then Helena's who just wants to get some attention.

I have a few things to say to all those out there who sit on their asses all day long blogging their opinions.

# 1: There is nothing wrong with sharing opinions (freedom of speech)

# 2: Just because Danbury's current administration is a majority of Republicans doesn't mean we all have to be fence jumpers and point fingers.

Listen folks, I carry over 68 years on my back not to mention a lifelong Danbury Resident. I am new to these blog things but they make me sick.

Ya'll keep saying what you want; keep blogging; keep posting videos. You Claim by doing the above you are making a difference. WAKE UP: Wanna make a difference....RUN FOR OFFICE, and if you don't because you're apprehensive to do so then RESPECT THOSE WHO ARE IN OFFICE.

I agree that there's nothing wrong with being opinionated for that is what makes us all different and makes the world unique.

Here's to you Hat City Blogger...when Ghandi said, "Be the Change You Wish To See in The World, " he didn't follow the statement with, "you will succeed in life by bashing respected figures and blogging your life away."

HAHAHHAHAHAH
