We decided not to post on this issue right away since we didn't want to jump to any conclusions, however, the more we hear about the incident at Danbury Fair Mall the stronger we feel about our first opinion on the story.
Danbury Police were recently accused at a public meeting and in the papers of using excessive force on a group of youths who they had to break up late at night in the Danbury Fair Mall parking lot. Parents and the local NAACP are in an uproar over the issue but surveillance video released by Mall security shows the majority of the incident and everyone agrees there was no excessive force. In addition, video footage from the booking area of the Police Dept. show a youth using a racial slur at a Police Officer. How reliable can a groups of kids be if they are hanging out in a parking lot at midnight waiting for a fight and using racial slurs at Police Officers? Haven't these people seen an episode of COPS? When Officers enter a situation where there is a crowd, where there could be weapons and where they are faced with resistance then they might have to be rougher to gain control of the situation.
Formal complaints have also not been filed by the youths, according to The News Times, because their lawyer told them it would incriminate them, but they were in the wrong place doing the wrong things and they should suffer the consequences, and if their allegations are true then they should file despite the consequences to keep the Police Officers from doing the same thing again.
Instead of these parents and community leaders shouting "Abuse" at the Police Department, they should be shouting at the kids for choosing to be in a parking lot, waiting for a fight at midnight.

I agree ... those slugs were just looking for trouble and they found it at their expense.
If the police didn't interact and let the kids continue with their squall they (the parents) would still be up in arms.
The cops had their hands full here. It must have been a little scary for them to say the least.
I went to the Mill Ridge liquor store this week and by the looks I was getting I thought for sure I'd get robbed or assaulted.
The cops should sue these kids for slander. Just like Boughton should sue for slander. Rumor has it there is an individual out in cyberspace that calls him names and spreads lies about him. Typical right wing tactics. Dirty local politics. I'm so mad I could complain about a diner parking lot! hehe!
