March 6 Common Council Meeting- Part 2

Now onto to the budget. Overall the budget addressed some issues that Danbury has been struggling with for a long time. The budget plans to add more police officers, to increase their training and technology and to assist the department with its reorganization plan that will eventually save tax dollars and resources. A groundbreaking for the new Police Headquarters was also announced for this summer. The budget also includes 10 new firefighter positions for the new westside firehouse and a new fire truck, the construction is expected to be complete this summer as well. I thought this was GREAT news for Danbury's westside and the entire fire department which won't have to take so long to get to the westside for a fire and to save lives'. Our ambulance services will also improve with funding for a new call system.

The budget also includes a reorganization of the Public Works Department, which like the Police Department's plan is expected to save us some money. The UNIT team is getting more money as well, hopefully that will enable them to do more inspections and get more illegal out-of-state cars out of our neighborhoods. The budget also addressed rising energy cost. Unfortuanetly we don't all benefit from this new tax credit but it does help our seniors who live on fixed incomes and who struggle to pay their bills and to have enough for everyday necessities like buying groceries. Another good point was a no rate increase for sewer and water and a less then 1% increase in taxes. Any increase doesn't help us everyday working folks but less then 1% is not too bad considering all the money the city is putting into safety, our neighborhood preservation and our education which also received an increase in funding. Overall there were no major surprises but that is a good thing as long as we don't get any negative surprises.

Soon after the budget I had to get going but I heard the issue of the BRT and tax incentives brought some additional heated debate and infuriated Councilwoman Taborsak so much that she up and left the meeting in the middle of it. I don't know about you but if she was representing my district I'd be alittle upset, she didn't vote on the rest of the issues and she walked away from her duties as a council member. I don't care how upset you get with an issue if you are my representative I want you there to do what is best for me and my neighborhood. Let us know what your opinion of the council meeting was and of the key issues we discussed.

Yes, I agree Taborsak has got to go. Yes, she has strong opinions, and she knows her facts but the point of the matter is, this was a council meeting where everyone is there to work together and discuss what is best for Danbury. Getting up and leaving because of ignorance and anger isn't something a representative should be doing. It is by far disrespectful.

I live in Lynn's ward and I feel she has truly reached out to everyone she is representing in her ward.

She does take a very partisian stance on a whole lot of issues but that is who Lynn is.

I agree she did seem to be non attentive and angered last night with fellow council members and the audience. Getting up to leave wasn't a smart move.

She has no class and is singleminded. Her questions and comments are usually uninformed and combative in nature. She would clearly have no ability to run anything in the city as half of the employees would quit. I hope she finally has put the running for Mayor rumors to rest.

Is the budget available online or can I request a copy of it via city hall?

Taborsak came to speak to my daughter's class at DHS wearing her 'plumbers gear.' What a great way to set a fine example for the city of Danbury. I was shocked when my daughter came home and told me this.

Hopefully we will see maybe some turn arounds this election.

The City's presentation, address and proposal are all located on the city's website under News & Events, www.danbury-ct.gov

I was at the meeting and the way the mayor was talking back at her he should be noted too. Although it is not right to walk out I was happy that she stood up to this guy. Every time someone said something he did not agree with he rolled his eyes or gave a sarcastic look. Also, good move by Colleen Stanley and a couple other R's for voting with the democrats to make sure there is research into the voting machine subject.

Also, to the blogger, Taborsak left right after the department reports at the end of the meeting. They moved the BRT to an ad-hoc without any debate. Please do not post things like this from hearsay. Post on what you first hand know or what can be proven in the minutes or on video. Taborsak did not miss a single vote as all of them were done by the time she left. Another thing is you would be upset if you lived in her ward. She is at-large and does not represent a ward. So far the blog has been pretty accurate but this is a big blow as you obviously got some things wrong

It seems that the facts are not clear as to what happened with Councilwoman Taborsak. She left before the Fire Department new recruits vote and the Department reports votes. She also slammed her chair on the way out. She was clearly upset at the Mayor.

As for the voting machines and someone claiming that more research needed to be done. This is commical and an example of the problem with the democrats on the council. The research should be done BEFORE the meeting. A simple call to either the republican or democrat registrar of voters would have informed Councilman Chinese that the machines are worthless and can never be used again by federal law. If a little thought was put into it he would have realized that every municipality in the State of CT as well as other states need to get rid of them and now. There are literally tens of thousands of machines headed to the scrap heap. Some city official stated that we are spending $1000.00 a month in storage fees and we need to incur more fees because the councilpeople did not do their homework in ADVANCE of the meeting. That is bad government.

This comment is accurate and let me state again that Councilwoman Taborsak left BEFORE all of the votes were taken.

Lynn doesn't have a ward....she represents everyone because she is at-large...gosh how unlucky I am

Dbyblogger said...

I will give annonymous that Taborsak is at an at large council member, my mistake, either way, all the more reason why she should have stayed, if she represents everyone in this city then she should have stayed whether she like the way things were going or not.

Anonymous said...

I agree it's extremely sad Lynn couldn't face her own council members. She is a councilwoman at large and for this she really should know better.

Kudos to Rich Antous, Jr. and the rest of the UNIT. Antous was applauded for his hard work in preserving the neighborhoods in Danbury.

He and the UNIT team are out there completing inspections and teaching people the rigts and wrongs of this city.

I believe the others who are to applaude in the UNIT are Antous, James Johnson, Sean Hearty, Larry Miguel and Tom Driscoll.

Great work guys!

Boughton did an awesome job presenting the 2007-2008 budget for the city. The slide presentation was impressive. It was good to see the photo of the upcoming new police station.

This post is incorrect.

Taborsak did ot leave during the BRT discussion. She left during the reports and did not miss a vote.

This post can be brought up on libel charges since you defaming Taboorsak on something SHE DIDN'T DO.

I'm tried of these blogs smearing people without backing it up with facts and as a lawyer, I'll have no problem going after you or anyone who attempts to smear a politician for political purposes. I read the rules and guidelines to Blogger which you agreed to and you should be informed that this post will have your account suppended.

You're obviously shilling for the Republican Party (along with that DanburyDan and Danbury Politics guy) and personaly I don't care since it that Hat City Blog guy bleeds Democratic. WHAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH is these new blogs thinking that thry can post anything they want without any consequences.

Get the post corrected NOW or else I'm reporting this post and filing charges against you.

To the last anonymous comment:

Listen I used to keep a blog up to date on a daily basis when I was head manager for a large company in Philly. It's tough work. Especially coming from a lawyer you should agree that it is hard to please everyone these days.

However blogs are points of view, a place where concerned citizens can voice their concerns, their complaints and let the blogger know their side of the story.

There is no discrimination on this particular page, some stories I've read and commented to on this site weren't to my liking but that is what a blog is all about.

If you were so offended & hurt by the statement posted on the blog then chances are what the blogger wrote (possibly with some exaggeration) is true...The truth hurts.

Dbyblogger said...

To the anonymous "lawyer", if you were any kind of a lawyer then you should know better then to manipulate what is written. The post clearly states that "I heard" that Taborsak left early, therefore I never claimed to be a witness to this action or to proclaim this as an absolute fact, although others who were there did say that she missed votes. No one can deny that the Councilwoman stormed out of the meeting before it was done. Whether she missed votes or not she should be ashamed to have allowed her temper to get the best of her.

Anonymous said...

So some of you on this site are saying that it's okay for a political figure to stand away from his/her group (Lynn sitting in the back of the council chambers) and then it's okay for this person to leave the meeting when he/she was singled out when it came time to vote.
It's okay for Lynn to be the one who stands alone but failing to work together with those who hold other opinions isn't right.

Anonymous said...

The lawyer dude is hilarious! He must be posting for a little comic relief.....or perhaps he is Councilwoman Taborsak herself and very upset over the negative comments concerning his less than professional behavior at the meeting.
Keep of the funny posting Lynn...you crack me up!!!

Wish alittle of young (Joe) Taborsak would rub off on his mother. He is a very respectful, intelligent human being.

Guess this saying isn't always true, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

Keep up the good work State Representative Taborsak

Very glad to see this woman isn't considering running for Mayor.

Anonymous said...

She probobly considered it....but got no support from her own party. She should start her own political party...perhaps calling it the Danbury Dingbats for nonsense, silliness, higher taxes, obstruction, low class, illegal aliens (from both Mars and Ecuador,) singlemindedness, an ability to not work well with others and other goofy stuff.

Anonymous said...

I agree Taborsak is in a world of her very own.

In regards to DYBlogger post to the lawyer,

The anonymous person is correct. There are several mistakes in this post that could get you into legal trouble. What you stated was not the fact and instead of verifying the information, you posted this in an attempt to smear Ms. Taborsak.

Here's what you stated in your post.

Soon after the budget I had to get going but I heard the issue of the BRT and tax incentives brought some additional heated debate and infuriated Councilwoman Taborsak so much that she up and left the meeting in the middle of it.
The issue of the BRT tax break was moved to an ad-hoc committee, there was no debate on the issue so how could Lynn leave in the middle of the "debate."

Lynn did not miss a vote YET you couldn't resist to SMEAR her again. AND in the most idiotic lie, you stated that:

I don't know about you but if she was representing my district I'd be alittle upset, she didn't vote on the rest of the issues and she walked away from her duties as a council member.

This makes no sense since Taborsak is an AT LARGE Common Council member and doesn't represent a particular ward.

You're simply shilling for Republicans by defaming a Demcrat that you don't like and sloppy, misleading, and inaccurate posts could get you into trouble. I know this because I'm also an attorney who was at the meeting last night. My friend is the other anonymous lawyer who emailed me a link to this site.

Although your only providing you opinion, you can be held accountable for comments made here that you know are not true. If I were you, I'd update this post with the correct information.

I'm assuming the meeting will be broadcasted on cable since there were camera there so your smearing of a public official will be exposed by the weekend.

Maybe your new to blogging but I would be very careful what you post and double check your facts. Public officials in Danbury are getting quite fed up with the level of misinformation popping up on these blogs and are going to take action. Recently, Mayor Boughton was filed a libel suit again Paul Streitz for comments he made in his suit against Danbury and there are three libel suits that I'm aware of against bloggers in the country right now for posting inaccurate information.

As blogs are getting more attention, be prepared for public officials to hold writers accountable for what they post.

You've been warned.

Anonymous said...

Why is everyone getting so upset over a post? Do you not have anything better to do with your time?

Anonymous said...

To the threatening poster who can't handle the truth: TABORSAK DID MISS VOTES. Also, if the public officials can't handle bloggers and what they post they should not run again or perhaps resign. Finally, if you are going to warn someone at least put your name to the post.

Anonymous said...

I was at the meeting as well...

TABORSAK DIDN'T STAY FOR THE ENTIRE MEETING.
SHE QUICKLY GOT UP FROM THE LAST SEAT ON THE COUNCIL BOARD AND OUT OF ANGER SHE PUSHED THE CHAIR (almost towards Stanley) AND LEFT.

I just don't understand why this is so unclear to you folks out there...You need to realize when Lynn doesn't get her points recognized she acts in ways that are far from human. (I think these so called "lawyers" are doing so as well.)

Anonymous said...

I wasn't able to attend the meeting but I work in a city department and heard the same story as DBYBLOGGER explained.

I don't know if it is the full truth but clearly we all know Taborsak is her own unique self and certainly is not placid when it comes to temper.

If you have another opinion to what exactly went on at the council meeting post it..Who cares..We can all walk away from the computer and certainly have our own opinion..So leave your comment and get on with the day!

Anonymous said...

She didn't agerly push her chair at Stanley. They were talking friendly to each other the entire time. This blog not can be viewed as fair because every political post has put down the dems and boosted the R's. If you are going to put your right wing views in at least make it clear like the hat city blog and the danbury dan.

Anonymous said...

Someone just emailed me this post. It's clear that the owner of this blog is a Republican shilling for the mayor.

At least hatcityblog and danburydan make their politican positions clear but this person is dishonest and a liar.

I was at the meeting and this post is inaccurate.

Dbyblogger said...

Who said we are putting down the Democrats?
As I look back to our first post let me just remind you all of our anticipated goal of this blog. Entitled, "Be Heard." This blog is a welcome change from whats out there.

Please help to keep it up to date with news stories, opinions and viewpoints.

Clearly we at DBYBLOGGER have our likes and dislikes, thumbs up and thumbs down. We also take into consideration the ideas and viewpoints of others'. Hint: Check out our statement made on the front page of our blog. "This Is What I Heard On Main Street."
We also let you all have the freedom to express your concerns and comments to our posts.
Did it ever boggle your mind as to why the Hat City Blogger has to 'ok' comments before posting them on his site?
We are asking you all to participate in this blog but if it comes down to a name calling, political bashing website then it won't be "A WELCOME CHANGE FROM WHAT'S OUT THERE."

Anonymous said...

The Danbury Dan guy has to "OK" his comments now too....I am going to boycott his blog!

Anonymous said...

Also we can note on the blogs we like placeon the front page. Danbury politics, and the danbury dan are both there. Hat city isn't and that blogger actually can prove his point with evidence. Whether or not you afree with him is your opinion but clearly we have either a closet republican or a conservative independent.

I was at the meeting-the whole meeting.
1. Taborsak left the meeting during Dept. Reports. She lingered in the Common Council Caucus room.
2. She missed three votes.
A. Acceptance of the Dept reports.
B. A vote to add item number 27 to the agenda.
C. Then the vote to appoint the 5 new firefighters.

She was spotted after the meeting in City Hall wandering around aimlessly.

I am sure that the minutes will reflect this.
That is the facts...

Anonymous said...

oops. I forgot a fourth vote, the vote to adjourn..

Anonymous said...

The Hat City Blog is just so far opinionated. I'll give him credit for keeping it up to date with great video footage but no one wants to read negativity day in and day out.

This blog is very much open to everything going on in the city. The group at DBYBLOGR complete their posts with both plus and minus for dems and republicans.

Anonymous said...

Yes Lynn missed 4 votes. I second that!

I quickly saw ch. 23 flash this morn. and I think the council meeting will be put on t.v. on saturday I believe at 7p.m.
I do know that tonight, march 8th, Abrantes will be on the Ivon Alcime show at 9.

Anonymous said...

DBYBLOGGER can you put up the minutes of the March 6th common council meeting when they become available? I would really like to see what 4 votes Taborsak missed when she decided to go roam the hallways of city hall. She is a terrible lost cause.

Anonymous said...

Yes anxious to see the minutes as well please post when you get them

Dbyblogger said...

Yes when they become available to us we will definitely post them.

We at DBYBLOGGER would really like to highlight them for those out there who felt our recent post on the council meeting this past Tuesday was untruthful. We will share them with you soon.
